I have no idea what prompted this train of creativity, because it's really spring and this is kind of a fall themed layout, but who am i to question my unconscious?

Take a Word Challenge - Friends

On Friendship
“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars...The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff."

Take a Word

Challenge - Manly

My initial thoughts of men are their physical strength and their propensity for hunting/war. So I decided to create a page with the man as a warrior with his lion beside him, taking in the view of Bryce Canyon Utah, USA. Bryce canyon and its many hoodoos looks like a place from a fantasy world.

Too Close to the Sun

Take a Word Challenge - wings

In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of the master craftsman Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth. Often depicted in art, Icarus and his father attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings that his father constructed from feathers and wax. Icarus' father warns him first of complacency and then of hubris, asking that he fly neither too low nor too high, so the sea's dampness would not clog his wings or the sun's heat melt them. Icarus ignored his father's instructions not to fly too close to the sun; when the wax in his wings melted he tumbled out of the sky and fell into the sea  where he drowned.

This tragic theme of failure at the hands of hubris contains similarities to that of Phaëthon.

Three Muses Challenge - House

Our house is a very,very, very fine house, with 2 cats in the yard...

Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

I'll light the fire
You put the flowers in the vase that you bought today
Staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to
you

Play your love songs all night long for me, only for me
Come to me now and rest your head for just five
minutes, everything is good

Such a cozy room, the windows are illuminated by the
Sunshine through them, fiery gems for you, only for you

Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats
in the yard

Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy 'cause of you

And our la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats
in the yard

Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy 'cause of you

And our...

I'll light the fire while you place the flowers in the vase
that you bought today

Take a Word Challenge - Blackbird

Haven't been around because my pc crashed and my lap top screen broke, so online is doable with some fancy rigging but definitely a challenge. Saving for a new computer...and hoping that it will come soon!

Blackbirds remind me of ravens and ravens remind me of Poe and Poe reminds me of Annabel Lee, one of my favorite poems:

Annabel Lee

BY EDGAR ALLAN POE

It was many and many a year ago,
   In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
   By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
   Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
   In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
   I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
   Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
   In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
   My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
   And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
   In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
   Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
   In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
   Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
   Of those who were older than we—
   Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
   Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
   Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
   In her sepulchre there by the sea—

   In her tomb by the sounding sea.
